My Favorite Summer Picture So Far….

Mommy Jenna | June 23rd, 2008 - 11:53 am

Well the party is continuing at ButterCup Berrie Sweet’s 1st Birthday Blog Bash and man is it a BLAST! Now we know I absolutely love catching my little Kelsie bug on camera and this summer has given me several oppurtunities despite the flooding. We’ve been able to enjoy going to Brookside Park here in Ames and the excitement Kelsie get’s “exploring” just melts my heart-simply put. She might trip in her excitement to figure out “whats that?” in front of her but she’s quick to get back up and keep going! My little girl is growing up! It is hard to believe how big she has gotten and all the milestones she has taken. Kelsie, you are amazing little girl and Mommy loves you soooo sooo much!!!!

So my favorite photo for the ButterCup Berrie Sweet Birthday Bash contest is a tough one to decide upon but I leave you with my precious baby girl! I’m sure that little face of innocence and intrigue will do the explaining for you :)

Water Everywhere!

Mommy Jenna | June 11th, 2008 - 3:37 am

Well I’m sure you have seen on the news the weather conditions in Iowa or the midwest for that matter. The state of Iowa has been declared in a state of emergency because we have had SEVERE flooding for the past two weeks (which followed a horrible tornado in the town of Parkersburg that took the lives of eight Iowans) We have definitely had our share of flooding here in Ames but thankfully our belongings have gone untouched.

The emergency spillway tonight is expected to reach the highest point since the Floods of 1993 here in Iowa. We have more heavy rain expected tomorrow so let’s hope they can keep the levys under control (they are releasing part of the spillway tonight and they have closed the majority of bridges running through downtown Des Moines.

That is definitely a big current event going on here in Iowa and I’m hoping if the time comes that I can help in some way, I get the oppurtunity to do so.

Right now, Kelsie passed her ear infection on to me as of Monday so my left ear isn’t doing too great and Steven now is getting the start of an ear infection…the things you don’t want shared right?? I’ve been having to fight a fever with mine but I guess it goes with the mommy territory. Hopefully by this weekend we will be both be feeling better as I have tried to make some “surprise” fathers day plans…(Steven has caught on to most of it though!)

Catch you all soon and hope I can get some more Great posts for you!

Taking your Child to the Dentist for the Very First Time

Mommy Jenna | June 7th, 2008 - 4:38 am

So as some of you know from reading previous posts, Kelsie had her very first dentist’s appointment this past week. While alot of people are saying that I took her at an extremely young age, I’m actually behind on what the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends. They have the little saying posted pretty much everywhere I have seen, “First Visit by First Birthday.”

Now in the process of taking Kelsie to the dentist, my grandma gave me a hard time and actually said she had heard on the radio “Just the other day” that you shouldn’t take your kids to the dentist until they are SEVEN! WHAT?!?! So of course I already knew I was doing the right thing by taking her but I had to do some research myself just to set my mind at ease.

Kelsie of course was nervous and fought a bit about having her mouth looked at by a stranger but her dentist was INCREDIBLE (I was able to find a Pediatric Dentist here in Ames) We got in, saw that her teeth were doing awesome, and then just discussed the teeth that are coming in, hygiene, etc. and made the plan for the next visit in six months.

If you are wondering about getting your child into the dentist for their first visit, I completely understand the nervousness! But I was able to find this awesome resource, Dental Care for Your Baby, that I will hope ease some worries and then it’s on the AAPD website, where you can search for Pediatric Dentist Office in your area.
